About Women 101
"I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver."
- Maya Angelou
WOMEN 101* was founded in 2009 to help The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County. It is, quite simply, a group of women helping a group of children. One-hundred percent of your donation supports the Club.

Thank you to Martha and her team at THEOPHILUS for hosting a wonderful Kickoff to our 2025 calendar of events! We loved seeing everyone’s smiling faces!

The History of Women 101…
In early 2009 our Board learned that a crucial grant for the Club’s yearly budget was not going to come through for us. Several female Board Members and some loyal female friends and supporters got together and devised a plan - they would first increase the core group to 10 donors that would be able to make an ask of others. That core of 10 would personally ask TEN of their friends to be a part of a new group called Women 101.
How was the name Women 101 chosen? The goal was to enlist 100 supporters for this group. The donation to join Women 101 would be $100 plus $1 to cover the cost of a stamp for the first mailing which equals $101. The "101" in the name Women 101 also represents "women learning to support and give". (Like English 101) In other words, members would be learning the basic foundations of becoming a lifelong philanthropist. Finally, the founders felt that $101 was a comfortable amount for many women to start supporting our Club. Hence the group chose the name Women 101.
The first year of Women 101, the group successfully helped bridge the gap in the budget left by the missing grant money. Also after the first year, the Board, again with the support of the core group of founders, decided to make Women 101 a yearly campaign. Sprinkled throughout the year would be events and gatherings at homes and local businesses for the group to engage with one another and in turn support our kids. Now, over ten years later and hundreds of thousands of dollars raised, Women 101 is still quite simply: A group of Women helping a group of children with 100% of donations supporting our Club. This is an open giving circle, anyone is invited to join this group. Our members, (even a few men included- again, anyone can join!), hail from our town of Brevard and Transylvania County as well as across the State of North Carolina, and on to New York, California, Florida, along with many, many other states...a Nationwide network of supporters from coast to coast connected through Women 101 of The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County.
