For several years, the Main Street Mile has attracted participants of all ages including many of our Club's SMART Girls and Boys - a program that teaches character and leadership through running - to run a unique, fun short distance race.

Join us on Saturday, September 9, 2017 - 10am for the 3rd Annual Main Street Mile - presented by Pilot Cove. This fun, easy one-mile race cruises along beautiful, historic Main Street with a perfect downhill finish towards The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club.

About the Club 

What began in a small community center serving less than 50 kids per day some 17 years ago has grown into a service that nearly 500 households rely on in our community.  The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County serves over 250 youth daily through our afterschool and summer programs. Founded in 1999 by the late Cindy Platt, The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County is committed to enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Through programs that focus on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles and Good Character and Citizenship, we provide a safe place for school-aged youth, ages 5-18 to learn and grow. Before September 8, 2017, registration is $20 per person.  Online registration will close September 6, 2017, midnight. After this date, registrations will only be accepted via paper registration forms and onsite at the event, Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 8:30 - 9:30am. 

Please note: T-shirts are guaranteed for participants who register by noon on August 24, 2017.

Race day logistics

8:30am: Race Day registration, Bib pick-up and Bag drop

9:30am: Race day registration closes

10:00am: Race STARTS!

10:15am: Post-race food provided by Subway and dance party led by DJ Dogg at the Club!

Parking - the best places to park* near the start line are the following:

  • Intersection of East Main and Rice St.: Parking lot adjacent to Comporium and the Episcopal Church
  • Intersection of Caldwell and Jordan Street: Parking lots behind Harris Ace Hardware and the old Transylvania Trust Company bank.
  • Intersection of West Main and England St.: Parking lot across from the fire department

*Post-race at the Club: We will offer a shuttle back to the vicinity of the start line for those who prefer not to walk.

Course Directions & Timing

  • Participants* will line up facing east on Main Street at the intersection of West Main and Broad St. 
  • Follow Main Street to the end of East Main Street and turn left on Wilson Dr.  
  • Turn left on Gallimore and then turn right to enter the front parking lot of The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club. Participants will continue towards the finish line on The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club property. 

*Participants will be confined to the right lane only.  The left lane will be open to traffic. 

The Main Street Mile is professionally timed by iDaph Events using the MYLAPS bib tag system - a single tag attached to the bib number.
